Joe Whitaker takes his second 2* grand prix in a week at Moorsele

Joe Whitaker was on a roll, claiming a handsome double on the final day at Moorsele. He claimed his second 2* world ranking grand prix in the space of a week with the ever-consistent Lola.

Winner of the Kronenberg grand prix in De Peelbergen, Netherlands the week before, the 11-year-old Locarno daughter again pulled it out of the bag in Moorsele for Joe.

“I’m lucky to have a mare that tries harder than me,” said a delighted Joe, who won the class by 0.85 sec.

British-based Irishman Michael Duffy slotted Belcanto Z into second. Jamie Wingrove took eighth on Cardigan Z in the eight-horse decider. Amy Inglis and Wishes missed out on the jump-off after returning four faults in round one for 16th and Jay Buxton took 19th with Strides Hilansterne on five faults.

Joe’s second win came in the 1.35m accumulator with Joker, the Locarno sired Lavarno taking the top spot by half a sec from fellow Brit Anna Power with the 10-year-old Chesterfield Z. Jamie Wingrove took 18th on Casianne.

Rhiannon Lawrence claimed seventh in the 1.15m accumulator on Sancer Turval.
