Ben Maher and Cliff 67 retain their consistency in Rome

Ben Maher and Cliff 67 kept up their consistent record in Rome to take fifth in the 2* 1.45m speed, six sec behind the winner, Ireland’s Darragh Kenny on Chanel.

The Netherlands’ Harrie Smolders won the Longines Global Champions tour grand prix of Rome on Don VHP Z – originally produced in Britain by Brendon Stud and Louise Simpson (nee Pavitt). They headed the seven-horse decider in style, winning by 0.89 sec. Jessica Mendoza was best Brit in 18th on Spirit T. They jumped clear in round one, but didn’t start in round two. Laura Renwick and Bintang had eight.

Due to further thunderstorms, the Global Champions League was cancelled. The prize-money was split between the 12 teams, but no points will be awarded and the penultimate competition of the 2016 series will take place in Vienna next weekend on 18th September.
