Jack Whitaker takes a win at the Stephex Masters

Jack Whitaker travelled from his cousin William’s wedding to Brussels and the Stephex Masters, and claimed a good win in the 2* 1.35m on Native De Vesquerie, a Papillon Rouge 15-year-old mare. They finished 0.60 sec ahead of nearest rival Thibault Philippaerts for Belgium on Zandigo.

Nina Barbour and Calle took third with a steadier round, over three sec behind Jack.

Ben Maher eased Aristo Z into fifth in the 5* 1.50m speed, 2.05 sec behind the winner, France’s Julien Epaillard on Safari D Auge. Laura Kraut and Cavalia took second.

A fast four faults in jump-off of the 2* 1.45m earned Jessica Mendoza fourth place on the 12-year-old Kashmir Van Schutterschof mare Zahra.

Time was tight in round one, and although seven clears were produced, eight came home on one time fault. James Davenport on Tiger and Scott Brash with Hello Forever both returned on five faults. Aimee Jones on Never Last finished on 10 faults. Norway’s Line Raaholt incurred just one time fault for 15th on Clarimo/Contender nine-year-old Clooney II – produced in Britain by Jamie Wingrove.

Jessica took third in the 1.40m accumulator with Wan Architect, scoring maximum points and finishing just 0.58 sec behind the winner. James Davenport claimed seventh on Cochella and Aimee Jones on Lilly 483 claimed ninth, also on maximum points.

Aimee had taken eighth on the Lordanos 10-year-old Lilly in day one’s 2* 1.40m.

Ben claimed fifth in the seven and eight-year-old on the Casall/Calvaro Z eight-year-old Cliff 67. Belgium’s Jerome Guery won on Instit de Jucaso and the USA’s Kent Farrington took third on Pepper Corn 2, a Perigueux/Lord Caletto eight-year-old produced in Britain by Billy Twomey and Louise Saywell.

At the Hamptons Classic Horse Show in Bridgehampton, USA, Britain’s Amanda Derbyshire claimed a 1.40m win on the Heartbreaker-sired Goldbreaker, winning by 0.63 sec. They beat several well-known names, including Beezie Madden, in third on Vanilla.

In Ising, Germany, Elliott Gordon claimed fifth in the 2* 1.35m on Lavinio 12, four sec behind the pace.
