Louise Saywell is a winner in Millstreet


Brits landed the top two places in Thursday’s grand prix qualifier at Millstreet 3*, Louise Saywell on the youthful 15-year-old stallion Mr Darcy claiming the win by an impressive 4.28 sec.

Holly Smith took second with the Beach Ball eight-year-old Lammy Beach. Only three clears were produced in this speed class, but Brits were in ultra-quick mode. Pippa Allen took fifth on Hope Springs, Holly slotted second ride Quality Old Joker into sixth and Lance Whitehouse claimed seventh on Vik II. Graham Lovegrove and Cobalt II eased into 10th with Lance and Dior V Overis Z 12th and Stevie Crosby on RGF Rubin in 17th.

Beth Vernon was a close second in a very competitive 1.35m two-phase, finishing just 0.07 sec on the 14-year-old Omane Des Faux behind Ireland’s Jordan Coyle with Amigo VH Winkenshof Z. Beth was also 11th on second ride Lotus, a Lordano nine-year-old, with Lance Whitehouse in 16 th on C’Est Seppel.
