Made in Britain - several horses produced in the UK are now in Rio for other teams

There a few ‘Made in Britain’ horses competing in Rio 2016 for other countries.  One notable horse is Valinski S, a 14-year-old gelding by Nijinski and out of a Julius mare produced in Britain by Sally Lane for then owner Sue Evans.  They are seen here contending a Foxhunter second round at Weston Lawns. 

Sophie Ryan started the gelding in British novice in 2006 and Sue’s daughter Charli took over in the summer of 2008 at Foxhunter level.  Sally started competing him in 2010, contending Foxhunter second rounds that year and rodehim up until September 2011 when he was sold.

The USA’s Michael Dorman and Candice King competed him from 2* to 4* with the occasional show at 5* level, and Ben Maher rode him briefly in Wellington 3* in 2015.  Current rider and now in Rio ridng for Australia, Matt Williams took over in October 2015.

 

Other horses previously ridden in Britain competing for different countries are Ben Maher’s London 2012 team gold medal-winning ride Tripple X, now with Canada’s Tiffany Foster, and Nick Skelton’s former ride Carlo 273, now with Spain’s Sergio Alvarez Moya. 

The Netherlands’ reigning world and European champion Jeroen Dubbledam rides the 12-year-old Zenith, produced in Britain from a four-year-old by Andrew and Emma Saywell and Dan Moseley.  David McPherson jumped the Rash R gelding as a seven-year-old in Spain before he joined Jeroen.

As Zenith IV, he started jumping British novice with Andrew in 2008 with Dan taking ove in 2009 at newcomer level.  Emma also rode him as a five-year-old (seen here at Weston Lawns) and Andrew jumped him as a six-year-old at 1.30m and B and C level, also contending newcomer second round and qualifying for HOYS at the BS/Scope Festival of Showjumping with third in the newcomer Masters.  They finished 11 th on two time faults at HOYS.
