Philip Spivey and Smirnov take fourth in the 2* world ranking grand prix of Vimeiro
Philip Spivey claimed fourth in the 2* world ranking grand prix of Vimeiro, Portugal, on the Romanov son Smirnov. Twelve from a field of 40 accessed the jump-off, with Philip posted a double clear 2.69 sec off the winner, Portugal’s Joao Chuva on Virginia Dream.
Four faults dropped Louise Saywell and the scopey Dassler down to 10th, and Graham Lovegrove on Centolove had four in round one to finish 16th.
Louise and second ride Patrol V also had four in the first round and Philip on Daya I Nur came home on eight.
Louise took second in the 1.35m speed on new ride Feigtling, 2.47 sec off the pace. Graham Lovegrove, fifth in Saturday’s 1.35m on Jakarta Van De Roshoeve, took seventh on the final day.
Philip rode High Hopes Condor into third in the 1.25m speed. Winner Portugal’s Martim Portela Morais must have sprouted wings – he ran away the class by a massive eight sec on Cilgen. Nick Burd and Play The Joker took 13th.
