Tim Gredley and Sam Ward just miss out on victory in Knokke

Tim Gredley and Unex Omega Star claimed second in the 1.45m accumulator, the Quickstar 14-year-old finishing 0.94 sec behind the winner, Ireland’s Darragh Kenny and Fixdesign Funke Van’T Heike. Sam Hutton and Iloica VD Bisschop took 18th.

Sam Ward and Wish took second in the 2* 1.35m speed, finishing 1.08 sec outside the winner. A steady clear from Billy Twomey on Pewit Nono ended 19th, with Stacy Babes (Cazador LS) and Scarlett Chalres (Dauphin) also clear for 23rd and 24th.

Ben Maher was the only Brit to reach the jump-off in the 3* Gold 1.55m grand prix under Saturday night lights with Tic Tac. Nine posted first round clears, but the Clinton/Darco 13-year-old returned on eight faults in the jump-off to take eighth.

James Davenport posted a jumping clear on Cochella in round one, but two time faults denied them a jump-off chance and they took 10th. Sam Hutton and Happydam had four faults for 18th.

Peter Charles took fifth in the Future Stars seven-year-old final with the Obos Quality/Cruising gelding ABC Quantum Cruise, 3.64 sec behind the winner. Peter’s son Harry claimed eighth in the 12-strong jump-off with a double clear on the Diamant De Semilly/Double Espoir stallion Valkiry De Zance. Four faults in the jump-off dropped Cressy Neads and Chinta Van Geluut Z to 11th. Max Routledge (Sieco) had five faults and Stacy Babes (Quilimbo) had eight.

Chloe with the Verdi/Great Pleasure stallion Chopin finished 14th in the 2/3* 1.45m ladies in action. Stacy and the eight-year-old stallion Iceman De Muze had four faults in round one and Cressy Neads (Townhead Chintan) had eight.

A steady clear from Bekki Gillespie and Tout In Love took 22nd in the Bronze 1.30m speed with Stacy Babes also clear and just below her on I Do van de Kwakkelhoek.

Brits finished down the line in the 2* 1.40m. Cressy Neads on Elton II and James Davenport with One Inverness both had a time fault in the second phase. Harry Charles (Alure III), Max Routledge (Haifa OL) and Ashlee Harrison (Toupie Du Quesnoy) all posted four faults in phase two.

Double clears from Polly Gredley (Unex Clintan MB) and Nina Barbour (Douglas Delight) earned 20th and 21 st in the 1* 1.15m. Sienna Charles, who has just been selected for the children-on-horses European championships with Chaitanya 2, and Theo Simpson on Flinstering also posted double clears. Stacy (Belle Epoque) had one fault in the second phase.
