Joe Whitaker wins the big class on day one in Zuidwolde
Joe Whitaker got Zuidwolde 2* in the Netherlands off to a great start, winning the VDL Stud Platinum 1.40m speed on the nine-year-old Lavarno.
They finished 0.42 sec ahead of the Netherlands’ Albert Voorn on Freebird with Tracy Priest netting third on the scopey Silverstone/Quickstar nine-year-old Caristo VDL.
Several Brits jumped steadier clears to finish down the line – Mark Turnbull (Cartouch III) took 14th, William Whitaker (Rosette) took 17th and Spencer Roe (Wonder Why) 18th.
Joe also took sixth on the Locarno daughter Diola in the seven-year-old 2.12 sec behind the winner. William Whitaker posted one time fault in round one on Diesel GP Du Bois Madame, finishing down the line. Tracy Priest and Caruso D’Eres Z had four faults.
John Popely took sixth in the six-year-old on the Carosso VDL/Andiamo mare For Fun, 1.33 sec behind the pace. Alex Chitty finished ninth on the Alicante HBC/Ahorn gelding Fenth. Mark Turnbull jumped a steady double clear on on the Lupicor/Corofino I eight-year-old Ashton Dakota to finish down the line in the 1.20m.
More steady clears on the first day of this show saw Mark Bunting finishing 17th in the Gold 1.35m on Eurohill’s Calcary with John Popely on Don Velner taking 19th. And a steady clear in the Silver 1.30m speed earned Charlotte Flack and the eight-year-old CS Online daughter Ashdale Sublime earned 17th place.
