Robert Smith makes his return to Yorkshire a winning one
Robert Smith made the return to his home county of Yorkshire a winning one on the first day of the Great Yorkshire Show.
He partnered the Balou Du Rouet/Caretino 11-year-old mare Bavi – who has just been selected for the Team GBR Squad in the Dublin Nations Cup – to head the William Hanson Stakes. The win paid handsomely, they were £2,000 to the good in the opening class of the show.
Kerry Brennan eased the Quidam De rEvel 13-year-old Wellington M into second with Laura Robinson and the Lando 12-year-old Jonti taking third.
Dale Burnham landed the Port Royal EEC accumulator on the Cardento/Goodtimes eight-year-old mare Doriena, outpacing Rebecca Marsh and Venus III, a Heartbreaker/Libero H 14-year-old. Chelsea Skelton took third on Judith Whitham’s Balou Du Rouet 10-year-old Millfield Baloney.
Riders are building up to day three of this traditional and popular show, and hope to win the Cock o' The North three round, tough competition, which carries and £8,000 first prize.
