Joe Whitaker and William Funnell win a second car each in Geesteren grand prix
When it comes to winning cars, the Brits have it. Joe Whitaker and William Funnell had already earned themselves a car apece with earlier wins, and they again hit the jackpot in Sunday’s top-billed grand prix, where the first three were awarded cars as prizes. Both were riding home-bred horses.
Joe was on fire! The Locarno daughter Lola V was his partner on both occasions. On Friday the pair headed the grand prix qualifier to collect a brand new Mercedes, and in Sunday’s world ranking Grolsche Grand Prix of Twente, Joe and the 11-year-old Lola were just 0.38 sec off the pace from winning again. Second, however, was still rewarded with a car. A very good week at the office.
And William, who won a car on Saturday, claimed third on his home-bred stallion Billy Congo for another vehicle to add to his collection.
Only eight contended the jump-off from a startlist of 58, with Germany’s Philip Ruping taking the honours aboard Copperfield 40. William was 0.65 sec slower than Joe for third.
William took fourth with the Cevin Z eight-year-old Billy McCain, 2.30 sec behind the pace in the 3* 1.45m. And Mark Bunting took eighth in the 2* 1.35m on Eurohill’s Alcatraz.
