Michael Whitaker with his Rio Olympics ride Cassionato took seventh in the Longines Global Champions tour Grand Prix of Cascais.
Seven posted double clear to access the jump-off, but four faults in a steady time dropped Michael on Beverley Widdowson’s Cassini I/Quidam De Revel 11-year-old to seventh. Italy’s Piergiorgio Bucci and Casallo Z (pictured) took the win by one sec over Australia’s Edwina Tops Alexander on Lintea Tequila with Ireland’s Bertram Allen in third on Hector Van d’Abdjhoeve.
Scott Brash on Hello Forever and John Whitaker with Ornellaia just missed the cut in round one with four faulta apiece for 19th and 20th. Laura Renwick (Bintang) and Ben Maher (Sarena) both had eight faults.
Edwina’s second place sees her bounce up the rankings to top the LGCT leaderboard by two points. Longtime leader, Germany’s Christian Ahlmann, is now second. Best Brit John Whitaker is seventh.
And Edwina also finished second on Ego Van Orti in the Global Champions league partnering Britain’s Alexandra Thornton with Caballero as the Shanghai Swans. The pair totalled five faults over the two rounds. Vienna Eagles Danielle Goldstein (Czerny N) and Lauren Hough (Waterford) won on a xero score.
John Whitaker (Lord of Arabia) teamed with Emily Moffitt (Hilfiger Van Del Olmenhoeve) as Valkenswaard United to finish equal seventh with the Rome Gladiators Laura Kraut (Andretti S) and Laura Renwick (MHS Washington). Scott Brash (Constance) and Kimberly Prince (RMF Fara Van De Maltahoeve) as Miami Glory took 10th.
