Chelsea Skelton doubles up on day one at Keysoe International

Chelsea Skelton got day one at Keysoe 2* International to a great start with a double of wins. Caramba topped the 1.40m and Cheleko GB Z headed the 1.10m.

From a field of 69, only 13 accessed the jump-off with Chelsea claiming two of the rides. Chelsea was ultra-quick on Judith Witham’s Balou Du Rouet Z 10-year-old Millfield Baloney, but after tipping a rail they dropped to an eventual sixth. There was no such mistake on the nine-year-old Wolfgang H gelding Caramba, and they swept into an unbeatable lead by 0.29 sec.

Amy Inglis was second on the 12-year-old Upsilon Van De Heffinck mare Every Way and Phillip Miller was hot on her heels for third with the Zidane/Silverstone eight-year-old Darona.

Cheslea claimed victory in the 1.10m aboard Cheleko GB Z, a Chellano Z/Mermus R 14-year-old, winning by 1.70 sec. Oli Fletcher took second on ghd Quasimodo VD Molendreef/Voltaire eight-year-old mare Dahar with Lucinda Huzzey in third with the Lotus 11-year-old Roucayrol.

Abbie Crippen outpaced all to take the 1.30m by an impressive 3.38 sec on long-term partner Vilka B, a Hors La Loi II 14-year-old mare. Abbie has dropped Vilka down to 1.30m classes recently, and she is still relishing competition.

“She’s in her twilight years now, but she’s still enjoying herself,” she said.

Gemma Ellison brought the 12-year-old Silvertsone/Corland mare Zilverster into second, with Kayleigh Watts and her consistent Spanish sunshine tour winner Charmeur – a Calvaro Z nine-year-old bred by Beth Gillespie – in third.

Ellen Whitaker eased Virginia, 11-year-old Spanish-bred mare by Centauer Z, into the top spot with 1.13 sec to spare in the 1.20m. Tegan Jones claimed second on Apart EA, a Dutch-bred 11-year-old by O’Brien with Aimee Jones on the Cardento 10-year-old Biance BC third.
