Phillip Miller is top in South of England's grand prix
Phillip Miller posted another win with Brendon Stud’s Royal Windsor winner Unbelievable Lady, an Unbelivable Darco nine-year-old. The pair headed the South of England grand prix in fine style.
They have been very consistent of late, with second in both Herts County and Surrey County area trials. They moved up one place here, outpacing the quality field to take the win over Nicole Pavitt in second on Old Lodge’s 11-year-old mare Shahenaz.
Tracy Priest netted third on the scopey Silverstone/Quick Star nine-year-old Caristo VDL with Phllip also taking fourth on Caritiar Z. Lucy Bunn was fifth on the eight-year-old Billy Buckingham with Paul Crago sixth on Valentino.
Robert Whitaker outpaced all to take the area trial on the Colman 13-year-old Catwalk. Rob Bevis was on form, taking second with his International Stairway winner Courtney, with Darren Wise on Calaero in third. Jessie Drea and Mullaghdrin Touch The Stars took fourth with Nicole Pavitt in fifth and seventh on Victor Blue and Areeb OL. Tracy Priest was sixth on Caristo VDL.
At his first show with the 12-year-old Calido Bay, Jake Saywell – who is based with Shane Breen at Hickstead – doubled up with 1.35m and 1.40m wins.
“He’s very competitive,” said Jake on the German-bred gelding with Calido Ass/Alcatraz bloodlines, recently ridden at junior International level by Norway’s Fanny Hjemdal Wallace before he returned to England and Shane.
Chloe Winchester and the speedy Zandokan H was second with Ben Walker on Da Vinci V in third and Phillip Miller’s Darona fourth.
In the 1.35m, David Simpson took second on Unex Cognac IV and Sarah Lewis on Doonaveeragh Emma was third. Sunniva Sunde took fourth on Vienna XV and Chloe Winchester was fifth on Synique.
Kimberly White claimed the accumulator on the Orame/Wellington 14-year-old Vogue III from Ben Dalton’s Clearviews Centre Stage. Rebecca Allison was third on Rosa II with Polly Harrison and Index II fourth. Chloe and Synique took fifth with Ben Walker and Cacherel X sixth.
Abbe Elliott headed the 1.25m on Casti Aneira from Chris Franks and Megatimes with Jordan Barnes and Its Mickey in third.
Julien Feuillerac topped the Bliss of London 1.30m on Ipswich Van T Wolfsaaker with Tracy Priest in second on Caruso D’Eres. Abbe and Casti Aneira took third wth Barry Drea fourth on Okehurst Miss Mexico.
