Dale Burnham and Romanella Gold take the Suffolk County International Stairway

Dale Burnham topped the International Stairway at Suffolk County with Romanella Gold to record this mare’s biggest win to date.

Only four round one clears were produced over Paul Connor’s testing track, with Dale posting the sole double clear to take the top spot with the Romanov nine-year-old. It was the steadiest round, but they left all the poles up.

Kerry Brennan and Wellington M took second with the fastest four, and Keith Shore with Mystic Hurricane was just behind them to take third. Phillip Miller and Brendon Stud’s Unbelievable Lady claimed fourth.

Joe Clayton and the Conterno Grande nne-year-old Conman JX headed the International Trial from Holly Gillott and Lammy Beach, a Beach Boy/Coevers Diamond Boy eight-year-old.

“Conman jumped fantastic, he was so unlucky to have four faults in the Stairway,” said Joe, who also took third in the accumulator on Cally V.

Chloe Winchester’s Avoca Valkyrie made her first appearance at a show since January after being off with injury and took fifth.

“She’s very happy to be back,” said Chloe.

Tim Page honed his skills to win the ride and drive, and also took second and third in the 1.40m Welcome Stakes on Nadzaro Bliniere and Steady The Helm. He couldn’t catch Keith Shore, winner here with his ultra-consistent Zegreanne Z.
