Ben Maher is best Brit in St Tropez on day one

On day one at the fabulous Athina Onassis show in St Tropez, Ben Maher netted third in the Bentley 1.50m with Diva, the Kannan 11-year-old bred in Britain by Liz Edgar. They were almost two sec behind the pace, with victory going to France’s Simon Delestre and Chesall Zimequest. Morocco’s Abdelkebir Ouadder took second in the 17-horse jump-off.

Laura Renwick and MHS Washington posted five faults and both John Whitaker (Echo of Light) and his brother Michael (Daedalus Van T&L) incurred 13 faults each.

Ben was also third on the Andiamo 12-year-old Aristo Z in the 5* 1.45m, just 0.37 sec behind the winner, France’s Julien Epaillard and Cristallo ALM. Laura Renwick brought the 10-year-old Bintang into seventh and John Whitaker posted a steady double clear on Argento for 14th. Michael Whitaker incurred one time penalty in the second phase on Cassionato.

In the 2*, Ashley Ray took third 0.93 sec off the pace in the 1.25m on Quite A Flower with Claire Beecroft in seventh on Vanda Cartier and Tess Carmichael ninth on the 10-year-old Boran.

Alicia Store claimed fourth and ninth in the 1.15m on the President 12-year-old Uriko Van Sint Antoniushoeve and the Tangelo Van De Zuuthoeve nine-year-old Capellini II, with Imogen Beecroft on the 15-year-old Untouchable (Andiamo/Lux Z) in 10th and Jane Davies on the six-year-old Cipriani in 11th.
