Michael Whitaker is second in Rome

Michael Whitaker took second in the accumulator on the final day of Rome 5* with the Salvador V/Heartbreaker 13-year-old Daedalus Van T&I. They were just half a sec off the pace, the win going to Italy’s Gianni Govoni on the Cornet Obolensky 10-year-old Bobolensky. Billy Twomey and Ardcolum Duke claimed fourth.

McLain Ward claimed yet another win in Rome, the Thunder Van De Zuuthoeve 10-year-old HH Azur heading the Loro Piana Grand Prix of Rome. The ultra-consistent American was 2.40 sec ahead of nearest rival, Sweden’s Peder Fredricson on H&M All In. Laura Kraut and Zeremonie took third in the 13-strong jump-off, where the seven round one clears were joined by faulters. Germany’s Marcus Ehning was fourth with one time fault from the first round.

Billy Twomey and Diaghilev, on four from round one, came back with a good clear to take eighth. Robert Whitaker and Catwalk had four in round one but didn’t make the cut to take 13th, and Ben Maher on Sarena returned on eight. It all went wrong for Jessica Mendoza as Sam De Bacon finished on 16 faults.
