Laura Renwick is second in the Global Champions League in Chantilly

May 29, 2016

Laura Renwick was again in the frame in the Global Champions League at Chantilly, taking second on Heliodor Hybris partnering Brazil’s Marlon Modolo Zanotelli on Valetto JX as the Rome Gladiators.  Just two faults denied them a win.

The Rome Gladiators were in the lead with two other teams on a zero score at the halfway stage, but four faults from Laura and the Diamant De Semilly nine-year-old Heliodor left the door open for others.  The first riders from Valkenswaard United and Cascais Charms both posted clears, but their second riders faulted and fell by the wayside.  And Marlon stormed home clear on Valetto JX, a British-bred 14-year-old by Cevin Z, bred by the late Jane Maxwell and produced in Britain by Anthony Condon and Dave Quigley.

Nevertheless, the win was denied when the Madrid in Motion team – on one fault from round one – sneaked into the winner’s spot with only one fault in round two.  Gonzalo Anon Suarez on Qlamo d’Ivraie jumped both rounds with one time fault in each and partner Pedro Veniss was double clear with For Felicila to win by two faults.

Scott Brash (Crown) and Georgina Bloomberg (Calista) as the Miami glory finished in 10th on an eight fault total in the first round.

Valkenswaard United still remain at the top of the leader-board after seven legs on 164 points with the Monaco Aces hot on their heels with 160 points.  The Rome Gladiators lie in third on 157.

Scott brought the Sebastian III/Concorde seven-year-old Cademuir into 11th with a steady double clear in the young horse class.  Louise Pavitt dropped to 20th with a jump-off score of four faults on the Lord Z/Darco seven-year-old Jaffar De Bourguignon.

But Louise was in the frame in the 2* 1.40m on the Nonstop 11-year-old Fiona VH Lemmenshof just 0.38 sec behind the pace.  Skye Higgin and Callgirl took 10th with Nicole Pavitt – the fastest of the lot in the 28-strong jump-off – in 12th after lowering a rail on Victor Blue.

Our luck was out in the 2* 1.45m Grand Prix.  Dave Quigley was 20th on one time fault with EIS Isaura and Nicole on Shahenaz finished 25th on four faults in round one.

Nina Barbour took 16th in the 1* 1.35m on five faults with Calle.
