Britain take equal second in the 3* FEI Nations Cup in Lisbon

Britain took equal second in the CSIO3* FEI Nations Cup team competition in Lisbon, finishing on 13 faults to share with the host country Portugal. Spain proved the runaway winners on four faults.

Spain and France led on a zero score at the halfway stage with Britain in third on four. But as France fell by the wayside, the British side managed to move up one place under chef d’equipe Tony Newbery’s guidance.

Pathfinder Anna Edwards with Blazer B posted four and one with Laura Robinson following on Jonti to score four and eight.

Tim Wilks (pictured) rose to the occasion and produced a faultless double clear on the 12-year-old Quelbora Merze, and Louise Saywell with the inexperienced eight-year-old Dassler came home with clear and then unfortunately, 17 in round two.

In the 1.40m, Anna and the 10-year-old Chesterfield Z claimed third less than a sec behind the pace, with Graham Lovegrove and Russ Underwood’s 10-year-old Holsteiner stallion Casparall in fifth.

Four faults in the 1.45m dropped Louise to 15th on the Landos/Cassini I nine-year-old Cobalt II.
