Joe Whitaker is a winner in Fontainbleau
Joe Whitaker and the game mare Lola V, an 11-year-old daughter of Locarno, took sixth in the Fontainbleau 2* 1.45m world ranking Grand Prix. They posted the fastest time in the 10-strong jump-off by almost two sec, but a rail on the floor dropped them down from a sure-fire victory.
Four faults in round one put Jane Annett and Nonstop III into 15th, and Sam Ward on Quality II clocked up eight faults.
But Joe clocked up a win in the 2* 1.40m small Grand Prix with the nine-year-old Lavarno, another Locarno daughter, winning by 0.67 sec. Skye Higgin took sixth on the For Pleasure 11-year-old Rafale Du Tillard in the 10-horse jump-off with Louise Alston and Doublet, a Baloubet Du Rouet 11-year-old, in seventh. Both incurred four faults in the jump-off.
Danielle Farnsworth took second in the Ladies 1.35m Grand Prix on the 10-year-old Cornascriebe Ferro a sec off the pace. Jess Dimmock and Merlsey Ezri took 18th.
Sam Ward took fourth and seventh in the 2* 1.30m accumulator on Sue Hodgson’s coloured nine-year-old Ferndale Special K and the Hors La Loi 13-year-old Wish. Skye Higgin slotted the selle Francais eight-year-old Ushuaia Du Thot into fifth.
