Rachael Connor is HOYS-bound with Zaha

Rachael Connor took the top HOYS Connollys Red Mills Newcomer ticket on Zaha in a seven-horse decider at North Cumbria’s BS area show. But in a nerve-wracking third and final round, only one clear was realised.

Rachael has produced the six-year-old Zaha from 2014 in British novice, and they were the only pair to take the £4,000 five-year-old bonus at Addington’s young horse championships in 2015.

“He’s so level-headed and mature,” said Rachael on the Tangelo Van De Zuuthoeve/Indorado gelding.

Scotland’s Stephen Lohoar proved the fastest four faulter to take second on the Tadmus eight-year-old Dante III, beating Rachael’s time by two and a half sec, but crucially leaving a rail on the floor.

Getting a HOYS last-chance ticket at the BS National Finals, Stoneleigh, in the Connollys Red Mills Newcomer Masters is third placed Johnathan Dixon and Evian II, Annabel Shields on My Casall in fourth and fifth placed Kate Haughton and Queensland 21.
