Billy Twomey lands the small grand prix in Spain

Billy Twomey landed the Big tour small grand prix aboard Terry Payne’s home-bred Vangelis S 13-year-old Diaghilev by 0.65 sec on the Spanish sunshine tour, Vejer, in a 22-strong jump-off.

Yazmin Pinchen brought Unesca into second with Jess Dimmock on Cybel II taking fourth, the steadiest of the treble clears.  Guy Williams was sixth on Depardieu Van’t Kiezelhof and Stevie Crosby brought TGF Rubin into eighth.  British-based Swede Angelie von Essen was ninth on One Man and Trevor Breen took 11th on Oldtown KC.  Sally Hopkinson finished 12 th on Temple Marple with Louise Saywell on Dassler 13th and Phillip Miller and Unbelievable Lady 15th.

An on-form Matt Sampson scored a handsome double.  Britain claimed three of the top four places in the Big tour 1.40m, Matt clocking up another victory on the consistent Ultimo/Wellington eight-year-old Dolanda.  Joe Whitaker claimed second on Ximena and William Whitaker took fourth on Balibu.

Matt’s second win came in the Big tour A 1.35m on Billy Tortilla, claiming two sec in hand over Mark Arnstrong’s Balougio III with Kerry Brennan in third on Dynamic III.

And Brits filled three of the first four places in the Big tour A 1.30m, with Alison Barton taking the top spot on Billy Anna.  Ireland’s Shane Breen was second on Eclips with Mark Armstrong third (Daniella) and Louise Whitaker fourth on Cleopatra.

British-based Irishman Derek McCoppin headed the Classic tour C 1.30m on Chopard Van Overis Z ahead of Paul Beecher in second with Danq.  Kayleigh Watts took third on Dinky Toy.

Young Oliver Tuff scored his first victory on horses with a win in the Classic B tour 1.20m on Cumana Van Pottelberg.  Nancy Pinchen and Zodiac Z took third.  And Oliver was also third in the Classic 1.10m on Cuchino Z behind second-placed Lily Beveridge and Wijnand.
