At WEF, Wellington, Italy's Lorenzo de Luca on Stephex Stables' Egano Van Het Slogenhof won the $35k 1.45m classic, beating Laura Chapot into second (Thornhill Kate) and third (Quointreau Un Prince).
The Electro/Nagano 12-year-old Egano is a new ride for Lorenzo - who has ridden for Stephex sonce December 2014 - and was previously ridden by Belgium's Gregory Wathelet. Lorenzo took over in Wellington, flying eight Stephex horses over for this tour.
“Last week he jumped a couple of classes and today was already good,” Lorenzo stated. “He is a very competitive horse; so sweet, so fast, so I am really happy to have him here.
I made up time a little bit everywhere, and he is a really nice horse, his brain is like a computer, he's a genius."
Ireland's Richie Maloney was in fourth on Alsvid. Nick Skelton (Gypsy King) had tow time faults and Amanda Derbyshire (Cannavaro BH) had four faults.
George Whitaker was 13th on Donnate in the 1.35m and sixth in the six-year-old with Billy Alabama. Stacey Babes and Little Beach took fifth in the seven-year-old with George eighth on Marchello Z.
